In our never ending quest to find "the ultimate" fly fishing equipment item, I have tried to list what I consider top picks for: fly rod, fly reel, fly line, fly vest or pack, waders & boots and streamside accessory. A very hard exercise - I am sure that many will disagree with my choices - so let me know by leaving a comment in the section at the end of the post.

My choices went towards fly fishing equipment that represent an amazing value or which is significantly superior to other similar gear.

Christmas is almost here as I write this post... my kids get excited and are looking forward to this evening, as this is THE moment we will all have a great supper, sing songs, tell stories, and for them, most of all, unpack their X-mas presents...

Next week I will reflect back on my 2010 fishing season and take new year "fishing resolutions" to plan my 2011 season. So what's in store for me?

I want to spend at least one week fishing for bonefish in Cuba, as my buddy Pascal has been there multiple times and recommended several productive flats easily accessible for a DoItYourselfer like me..

Then I want to go back at least once for 2-3 days to fish for winter steelhead around the Pulaski, NY region. My last trip end of october was good even though we didn't exactly hit the runs on time..

I also plan on Read More→

Here we go with our first Steelhead & Salmon Spey fly tying video. Again, I have chosen Davie McPhail to demonstrate how to tie this fly. With the help of this video, I believe most of you can give Spey flies a try. Read More→

If you are not fishing Stimulator dry flies at the end of spring, all summer, or all season long as a fantastic strike indicator for nymph fishing, I urge you to try. They float great, can imitate several stonefly species or simply act as an irresistible attractor to monster brown trout... This video shows one variation by Davie McPhail. Read More→

Here is another useful fly tying video - this one on a dry fly. This week's pattern is on tying the famous Adams dry fly. This American fly pattern (created by Len Halladay of Michigan in 1922 at the request of his close friend Charles Adams) was believed to have originally been a down wing pattern that more closely imitated a caddis. Second of the how-to fly tying videos by Davie McPhail from Scotland - on tying this proven, fish catching general purpose nymph: the famous (Gold-ribbed) Hare's Ear. I use this pattern in sizes #8 to #18 to prospect (search) for trout. There are many variations, mainly focusing on changing dubbing colors and adding some sort of flashy material (wingcase). Enjoy (and practice)!

I just wanted to give a brief explanation on what type of fly fishing equipment you will find on the site.

As I have mentioned in the About section, most fly gear on the CWFF website is selected fly fishing equipment from eBay. I am also showcasing items that are sold through Amazon. The obvious reasons are choice and price.

Most gear (rods, reels, accessories) are new. However, you will also find used fly fishing equipment, either mentioned in special sections on this site or on a particular brand's product page (like on the Abel Reels page). Sometimes a same product page displays both new and used fly fishing equipment items. To find out, if it is not mentioned in the title, simply click to see the details of each listing.

This is the first in a series of how-to fly tying videos by Davie McPhail from Scotland. I really like the videos he shoots and how he ties his flies. I am starting the fly tying articles here with a series on All-round flies, starting with nymphs, moving on to dry flies, wets and streamers. Enjoy (and practice)!

Finally the fly rods section is live - new and used fly rods for the following brands:

I have added an Abel fly reels section under the fly fishing equipment topic. There you will find listings for different Abel reel models, like the Creek series, Super Series, Trout, Big Game and other series.

Please be aware that new pages are currently being added for each model so you can quickly find deals on a particular Abel fly reel series.

If you have a particular request on what model you want to see, leave me a comment below.
